Best Metro Detroit Takeout & Food Delivery

Whether you are a Metro Detroiter who wants a night off from cooking or a visitor who wants dinner delivered to your hotel room, this guide will help you find some of the tastiest restaurant meals available for takeout and delivery in Detroit and the surrounding metro area.

In this Metro Detroit takeout guide, you’ll find what to order for your next restaurant meal “in” and how and where to place your carry-out or delivery order.

Please note: This Metro Detroit restaurant takeout guide was originally published in March 2020 to support local restaurants during Michigan’s dine-in closures. However, it has been updated to reflect current offerings.

This guide is also part of a series of takeout and delivery round-ups of Michigan cities, including Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Ann Arbor.

Disclosure: This Metro Detroit carry-out dining guide contains some affiliate links. I may earn a commission if you click on one of these links and make a purchase. Of course, this is at no extra cost to you.

Which Restaurant Delivery Services Operate in Metro Detroit?

If you are ordering takeout that you plan to pick up yourself, it is best to order directly through the restaurant. You’ll avoid delivery fees and driver tips, and the restaurant earns all the profit from your order.

However, when you want food delivered to you, it is best to order through a third-party delivery app as most Detroit area restaurants that offer delivery have partnered with one or more of these services.

Detroit and the metro area have access to the major national restaurant delivery apps, including Grubhub, Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Postmates.

Grubhub offers the option to pick up or deliver restaurant orders, groceries, alcohol, and more. In the Detroit area, you’ll find local restaurants as well as national chains such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Panera Bread, and KFC on Grubhub.

Some local favorite Detroit area eats on Grubhub include Chicago-style deep dish pizza from PizzaPapalis, gyro sandwiches and coney dogs from Leo’s Coney Island, and shawarma sandwiches from Al-Ameer in Dearborn.

Joining Grubhub+ will save you money on delivery fees, and now, a Grubhub+ membership is included for all Amazon Prime members.

Click here to start your free trial of Amazon Prime. Then, navigate to “Your Account” on Amazon and click on the “Prime” button to explore all of your member benefits and activate your Grubhub+ membership.

I think it’s great that places are also delivering wine. I wonder if that will continue once things calm down?

Thank you for stopping by the blog and for your kind words, Carol! I grew up in Metro Detroit, and my parents, extended family, and many dear friends still live there. So, I wanted to do something that would be helpful to them while supporting some of my favorite local restaurants.
