Amazing Copenhagen Seafood Restaurants (With Map)

Planning a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark, and hoping to eat fresh, local oysters, mussels, and langoustine? You are in luck. The team at Bounce has done the research for you, identifying eight of the best Copenhagen seafood restaurants.

This dining guide includes links to book your table at these top seafood restaurants in Copenhagen. We’ve also recommended activities and hotels for your trip, and you can check out our Europe and travel tips sections for more travel planning resources.

Why Visit Copenhagen, Denmark?

Located on the Amager and Zealand islands, Copenhagen is a dream destination for any seafood lover. The seafood is always fresh, and around almost every corner is a fantastic seafood restaurant.

In addition to dining at Copenhagen’s best seafood restaurants, you’ll find many unique things to do in the Danish capital. The city is also home to the Tivoli Gardens theme park, Rosenborg Castle, and Christianborg Palace.

But before hitting the streets to sightsee or taste fried pickled herring, we recommend dropping your shopping bags and suitcases at a Copenhagen luggage storage locker for safekeeping. Dragging large bags through crowded city streets is not ideal and will only slow you down!

Browse tours and activities to find things to do when you aren’t eating seafood in Copenhagen!

Where to Stay in Copenhagen

If you are visiting Copenhagen for the first time, the historic City Centre is the best area to stay. You can walk or bike to many must-visit Copenhagen attractions, including Tivoli Gardens amusement park, Strøget shopping, colorful Nyhavn, and royal castles and palaces, such as Rosenborg Castle and Christiansborg Palace.

In the City Centre, also known as Indre By, we recommend the following hotels:

  • 71 Nyhavn Hotel — Harborfront boutique hotel in a historic warehouse
  • Boutique Hotel Herman K — Cozy boutique hotel with industrial-chic rooms
  • Manon Les Suites Guldesman — Luxurious and sustainable all-suite hotel with a pool set in a lush tropical garden oasis

You can use the map below to find and book your Copenhagen accommodations!

Best Places to Eat Seafood in Copenhagen

Now, let’s take a look at the best seafood restaurants in Copenhagen. Perhaps one or two will grab your interest, or reserve tables at all eight and enjoy a smorgasbord of fresh seafood and exquisite Danish cuisine on your trip to Copenhagen!

Please note: We do our best to update our dining guides regularly. However, we recommend checking the restaurant’s website and/or social media for the most up-to-date hours and reservation policies before booking your table.

8 best restaurants for seafood in Copenhagen, Denmark

à terre

For some of the freshest seafood dishes created by Chef Yves Le Lay, of Hell’s Kitchen Denmark fame, enjoy dinner at à terre, a modern French restaurant created in homage to the chef’s late father.

The tasting menu features multiple courses with global influences. For a truly unforgettable dining experience, pair the perfect wine with your meal of oysters with caviar followed by the shrimp with white asparagus.

Please note that this is an upscale restaurant, so it may not be the best place for you if you have children in tow. You should reserve your table early to ensure you can enjoy à terre while in Copenhagen.

À Terre is located at Tordenskjoldsgade 11, 1055 København K. It is open for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and for lunch from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Stay nearby at the luxurious Hotel Sanders.

The Pescatarian

The Pescatarian is the place to go when searching for fine dining with a farm-to-table approach in Copenhagen. In fact, the restaurant bills itself as “a love affair with local seafood, fruits, and vegetables.”

Though you should expect the menu to change with the seasons, the fish here is always freshly caught. In summer, your seafood-centric meal may begin with langoustine carpaccio with Danish crab, pickled Tomberry tomatoes and cucumbers, and a vinaigrette of seaweed, tomato, and soy.

You can reserve a table and enjoy a delicious six-course or four-course dinner. Also, each course can be made vegetarian or vegan, but vegan diners should request a vegan menu in advance.

The Pescatarian is located at Amaliegade 49, 1256 København K, and it has a wheelchair-accessible entrance. The restaurant is open daily from noon to 3 p.m. for lunch and from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. for dinner.

Stay within a 15-minute walk at 71 Nyhavn, an eco-certified luxury hotel.

Oysters & Grill

Land and sea collide at Oysters & Grill, where you will find some of the best seafood in Copenhagen and a well-cooked ribeye.

Seafood eaters will find much to love at this modern European restaurant. The menu includes oysters, squid, scallops, shrimp, and more fruits de mer.

However, this is also one of the few places in Copenhagen where you can eat well-prepared steak tartare while sipping on an exotic cocktail. Bring an appetite and your sense of adventure!

In addition to the seafood and steaks, Oysters & Grill also offers a three-course vegetarian menu.

When you book a table and dine at Oysters & Grill, you may think you are sitting in a bistro in Paris rather than Copenhagen.

Oysters & Grill is located at Sjællandsgade 1B, 2200 København N. The restaurant is open from 5:30 p.m. to midnight daily.

Stay nearby at Hotel Kong Arthur, an eco-certified hotel with an onsite spa.

Fiskebaren // Kødbyens Fiskebar

When you dine at Kødbyens Fiskebar, you’ll enjoy Scandinavian and Danish seafood culinary creations.

Order oysters, blue mussels, or squid as an appetizer to share. Then, as you look over the menu, relax with a glass of wine or a refreshing cocktail. The smoked cod is delicious, or you can’t go with a traditional favorite of fish and chips.

Don’t forget to try the complimentary bread with seaweed butter — you will not soon forget it!

Be sure to reserve your table online to dine in this former industrial-style meat market turned into a cozy restaurant.

Fiskebaren is located at Flæsketorvet 100, 1711 København V. The restaurant is open from 11:30 a.m. to midnight daily.

Stay nearby at Andersen Boutique Hotel, a stylish four-star hotel.

Krogs Fiskerestaurant

If you want to dine at one of Copenhagen’s most conventional seafood restaurants, head to Krogs, as the locals call it.

With an amazing ambiance and delicious food, Krogs is one place where you’ll want to reserve your table ahead of your trip to ensure you can get in while visiting the city.

As you look over the menu, enjoy a memorable scallop starter. Then try the Bouillabaisse or fish of the day. Don’t forget to save plenty of room for dessert because Krogs has an amazing Crepes Suzette!

The wait staff is incredibly knowledgeable and will describe each dish if you are unsure what it is or what is in it. Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan dishes are also available upon request.

Krogs Fiskerestaruant is located at Gammel Strand 38, 1202 København K. The restaurant is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, serving lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 10 o’clock.

Restaurant Havfruen

If you are searching for an incredible seafood restaurant to dine at before or after a canal cruise from Nyhavn Harbour, look no further than Restaurant Havfruen.

This local waterfront bistro is the perfect place to relax and visit with the locals and other travelers. When the weather is nice, you can sit on the terrace to enjoy the sustainable, locally caught seafood paired with a glass of wine or beer.

If you aren’t hungry for a full meal, you can order off the smørrebrød menu until 4 p.m. daily. Pair your snack with a Tuborg, a local Danish beer, for a light meal.

The shrimp smørrebrød and seafood pasta are absolute must-order dishes, so reserve your table now.

Restaurant Havfruen is located at Nyhavn 39, 1051 København K, Denmark. The kitchen is open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Stay nearby at the boutique Hotel Bethel, where guests love the canalside location in Copenhagen’s City Centre.

You can make reservations for all three locations on the Skagen Fiskerestaurant website.

The Skagen Fiskerestaurant Illum Rooftop is located at Østergade 52, 4. Sal, 1001 København K. The restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. daily to10 p.m. with the kitchen closing 30 minutes to an hour earlier.
